Baby Winter Hats
How should a 6-months old being dressed to go outdoors in NY in winter?
I fight a war with my wife and her mother on how to dress our baby go from house to car. (outdoor exposure 45 seconds). I am convinced tha tThe baby does not need to be over dressed, just a hat and a blanket should be enough, but they insist on a jacket is needed, etc. I need advice. Our pediatrician, insists that cold exposure has nothing to do with getting sick. I am conviced that the more clothes the child has, the more sensitive to cold weather, he will be in the future. Is tolerance to temperature genetically? or body / mind learning with exposure? HELP!
ROFL because I have this argument with my in-laws, friends, total strangers in the supermarket ( "But her small hands should be freezing!"), Etc. all the time. I had to buy a snowsuit for when she goes to in-laws ... which has never been used here. If you go from a heated building to a heated car, a hat and jacket is fine. I will bring along a sweater, extra clothes, etc. just in case something happens (like car break), but, honestly, it's not a big part. You are not supposed to let a baby wear a jacket / snowsuit / etc in a car seat, car seat when straps will not hold properly. So if you're going to dress baby all bulky to go 45 seconds, you just have to dress her again. If the mother makes the loaded, let her clothe the child, how she wants. If you make the loaded, dress the baby, how you want. Unless there are some health problems, most babies regulate their body temperature pretty well at the end of the first month. The rule of thumb is to dress the baby, how you will be clothed, possibly with another layer, if you want to be on the safe side. If you are wearing a shirt and jacket, so baby's shirt and blanket to fine (two layers for both of you). If you blow up the ski parka, throw a jersey on the kid. And the cold does not cause colds. Cold and flu germs are more prevelent in winter because of increased time used indoors with others (and thus more bacteria in a limited area). I do not know of tolerance to be genetic. It could be. I'm always cold, but my husband burns like a furnace. Our baby's got better temp. reg. than I do, she is always hot, and will kick / pull off extra clothes.
